Mumbai, Sep 4 (Reporter) The ongoing strike by workers of the state-run Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) entered second day on Wednesday, causing a lot of inconvenience to passengers across the state.
Though the state government has started taking stern action against the striking workers, they are firm on their demands.
To end the stir, Chief Minister Eknath Shinde is likely to meet the Workers' Action Committee at his official 'Varsha' bungalow this evening.
Notably, 11 unions of MSRTC workers have called a state-wide strike from Tuesday to demand wages for employees as well as government employees and to press for other demands.
On the first day yesterday, around 50 per cent of bus services were suspended across the state. Out of total 251 depots in the state, 59 depots were completely shut while 77 were partially closed. Due to this reason, MSRTC was forced to cancel total 11,943 bus trips in the state, resulting in loss of revenue of Rs 15 crore in one day, said sources.
Also, on Tuesday, Industry Minister Uday Samant tried to end the strike of ST workers by promising to find a solution to their demands but in vain. Therefore, the Chief Minister has invited the employees' unions for a discussion at his official residence today.
Meanwhile, the ruling party MLAs Gopichand Padalkar and Sadabhau Khot have supported the ST workers' strike, putting the state government in a dilemma...////...
