MUDA scam: Karnataka govt denies official permission for BJP-JDS march

Bengaluru, July 29 (Reporter) Karnataka Home Minister Dr G Parameshwara on Monday announced that the police will not grant official permission for the BJP-JDS planned foot march. However, he clarified that the government will not actively prevent the demonstration either. "We won’t say no, but the police department will not officially give any permission," Dr Parameshwara told reporters here. The BJP, under the leadership of state party president Vijayendra Yediyurappa, is set to launch a week-long march starting August 3, traveling from Bengaluru to Mysuru. The party’s primary demand is the resignation of Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, whom they accuse of being involved in a land allotment scam linked to the Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA). Allegations suggest improper site allocations to Siddaramaiah’s wife, Parvathi. In response, Siddaramaiah has dismissed the BJP’s claims as blackmail and deception, and has called out the JDS for alleged dishonesty. To address the accusations, Siddaramaiah has initiated the formation of a judicial commission to investigate the land allotment controversy, arguing that this action surpasses the investigative efforts of the opposition during their tenure. Despite the decision of the police, Vijayendra remains undeterred. He is mobilising BJP members for the march and has slammed the current administration’s handling of corruption, drawing comparisons to previous scandals. Regarding the alleged scam involving the Karnataka Maharshi Valmiki Scheduled Tribes Development Corporation Ltd, Siddaramaiah acknowledges some wrongdoing but disputes the opposition's exaggerated figures. He asserts that the actual amount in question is approximately Rs 84.63 crore, not Rs 187 crore as reported, and highlights ongoing investigations by various agencies...////...
