Bhubaneswar, July 21 (Reporter) The name of the Biju Patnaik Sports Award will not be changed and its distribution will continue as earlier, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi said here on Sunday. Talking to media persons, the Chief Minister said no decision had been taken for renaming the Biju Patnaik Sports Award. Majhi said he came to know about the speculated renaming of the award from media reports. A notification issued by the state Sports and Youth Services department on Friday had renamed the ‘Biju Patnaik Sports Award’ as ‘Odisha Rajya Krida Samman’ and said the state government will confer Rajya Krida Samman in eight categories subject to availability of suitable candidates. The Biju Patnaik Sports Award was launched by the Naveen Patnaik government in 2001-02 to commemorate the yeoman service of late Biju Patnaik, the ex-Chief Minister of Odisha, towards the development of sports.
