Hubballi, Feb 3 (Reporter) In a dramatic development in the Neha Hiremath murder case, her father Niranjan Hiremath has called for a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe, alleging the involvement of an influential Karnataka MLA.
The MCA student's April 18 murder has shocked the state, with her father claiming that justice has not been served despite multiple promises from the state government.
Speaking in Hubballi, Niranjan Hiremath, a Congress corporator, expressed deep frustration over the lack of progress in the case.
He pointed out that the state government had earlier assured him of a fast-track court, with justice to be delivered within 120 days. However, no such court has been established yet, prompting the family to demand a CBI investigation.
"My daughter’s soul should rest in peace," Hiremath stated emotionally, adding that public concerns about the investigation’s direction were growing. The father also accused an MLA of being involved in the crime, a claim that has raised tensions in the political landscape of Karnataka.
A fringe right wing group Sri Ram Sena has backed the call for a CBI probe, with its founder Pramod Muthalik claiming to have evidence linking prominent figures to the murder. Additionally, the accused, Fayaz Kondikoppa, has been permanently suspended from his college as part of the protests surrounding the case.
The Karnataka Police have ruled out the "love jihad" theory, confirming that the murder was linked to a refusal of marriage.
