Chennai, Feb 2 (Reporter) The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Friday conducted raids at the premises of several Naam Tamilar Katchi (NTK) functionaries in connection with the LTTE- (a banned outfit)-inspired Arms seizure case and for their alleged links with LTTE sympathisers and receipt of foreign funds. NIA said the raids were held in six locations in Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Sivaganga and Tenkasi districts. Several incriminating documents, books relating to banned terror outfit LTTE and electronic gadgets, including laptops, mobiles and sim/memory cards and pen drives were seized during the raids. Searches were also conducted at NTK functionary YouTuber ‘Sattai’ Duraimurugan's residence at Shanmuga Nagar, in Tiruchi and questioned his family members for nearly two hours as he was not present in the house. The searches were a follow up to the investigation into the Omalur arms case in Tamil Nadu, which the NIA took over from the State Police in 2022. Meanwhile, a NIA statement said the National Investigation Agency (NIA) carried out a series of raids across Tamil Nadu (TN) in an LTTE inspired arms seizure case. "Raids were conducted by the NIA teams at the premises belonging to suspects in the Omalur Arms Case in Chennai, Trichy, Coimbatore, Sivaganga and Tenkasi. Extensive searches by the agency led to the seizure of one laptop, 7 mobiles, 8 SIM/memory cards and 4 pen drives, along with incriminating documents and books related to the LTTE terror organisation and its self-styled slain supremo, V.Prabhakaran." "The case was originally registered by TN Police following the apprehension of two men, identified as NaveenChakravorty and Sanjay Prakash, during vehicle checking at Puliyampatti division, Salem, on May 19, 2022. They were arrested after being found in possession of two Pistols, ammunition, gun powder etc", NIA said. "Investigations revealed that the duo was inspired by the LTTE, a proscribed terrorist organisation. They wanted to establish an outfit similar to the LTTE and wage an armed struggle in Tamil Nadu. Subsequently, one more accused person, namely Kabilar @ Kabilan, was also arrested in this case", it added. The case was taken over by the NIA on July 25, 2022 and investigations are continuing The Omalur Arms case pertained to the seizure of arms, ammunition and other materials used for manufacturing weapons from two persons, M. Naveen Chakravarthy (25) of Kitchipalayam, a BCA graduate, and J. Sanjay Prakash (25) of Shevapet, an engineering graduate, by the Tamil Nadu police in Salem district. Following the seizure, Kabilan (25) who helped the duo in manufacturing guns at a rented house, was arrested. The NIA filed a chargesheet against the trio on charges of conspiring and associating themselves with the LTTE and creating an organisation called the World Tamil Justice Court, to pursue their goals. In the chargesheet the NIA said the accused had planned to attack people who worked in quarries, crushers, and Tasmac outlets by using illegal firearms, lethal weapons, and explosive substances.
