Nine killed, 25 injured as MSRTC bus overturns in Maha

Gondia, Nov 29 (Reporter) Nine bus passengers were killed and 25 others injured when a Maharashtra State Road Transport Corporation (MSRTC) bus overturned near Davwa village in Gondia district on Friday afternoon. According to police, the MSRTC 'Shiv Shahi' bus was proceeding to Gondia from Bhandara when the accident took place. The bus overturned when the driver was overtaking a two-wheeler, and skidded off the road about 20 feet. As a result, 9 passengers in the bus died and 25 passengers were injured. As the number of seriously injured passengers is more, the death toll is expected to increase. The villagers of Davwa rushed to the accident site and pulled out the passengers trapped in the bus. 108 ambulances were called and they were admitted to the Government Medical College in Gondia. As soon as the information about the accident was received, the police of Duggipar police station reached the spot and started the relief work. Meanwhile, the traffic on the Gondia-Kohmara road was stopped for some time due to the accident. Caretaker Chief Minister Eknath Shinde took information about the accident from Collector Prajit Nair. The administration has been instructed to take necessary measures immediately. Shinde also directed to provide Rs Ten lakh as financial assistance to deceased family members. Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on his social media platform X wrote that, 'It is very unfortunate that a Shivshahi bus met with an unfortunate accident near Sadak Arjun in Gondia district in which some passengers died. I pay my heartfelt respects to the deceased. We share the grief of his family. The people who were injured in this incident, even if they have to be treated in a private hospital, they have been instructed to give it immediately. I have also told the Collector of Gondia ‍ to make arrangements to shift them to Nagpur if required. Senior administration officials have reached the spot and are coordinating relief efforts.
