Patna, Oct 1 (Reporter) Directing the water resources department to remain alert and continuously monitor the situation arising due to flood in the state. Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar asked officials to take assistance from the Air Force in the distribution of relief materials wherever it is required.
After making an aerial survey of the flood-affected areas Kosi, Gandak, and Ganga rivers on Tuesday the Chief Minister directed the authorities to run the relief and rescue operations on a war footing and take assistance from the Air Force in the distribution of relief materials in the difficult areas and wherever it is required.
He asked the engineers to remain alert and instructed the senior officers to camp in the affected areas. He also asked the Disaster Management Department officers to continuously monitor and review the situation.
The Chief Minister suggested authorities make all possible arrangements in the flood-affected areas including the availability of boats, polythene sheets, relief materials, medicines, fodder, flood shelters, community kitchens, dry food packets, food packets, and others.
He said that the emergency centers should function continuously in the flood affected areas for the convenience of the people.
Apart from providing the relief materials he asked the administration to make proper arrangements of light, toilets, and others.
A report from Saharsa quoting District Magistrate Vaibhav Choudhary said that the ongoing relief and rescue operations were reviewed during the day. He said that the administration was providing all required relief materials to the affected people.
The NDRF, SDRF, and local administration shifted several people to safer places.
The Health Centres have also been set up near the places where flood-affected people have taken shelter. Apart from this 16 teams of veterinary doctors have been deployed in the affected areas.
Meanwhile Purnia MP Rajesh Ranjan alias Pappu Yadav, after visiting various flood-affected areas of Darbhanga demanded the government to accelerate the pace of relief and rescue operations and suggested monitoring of the situation through helicopters.
Yadav provided relief to the affected people on his own and donated funds for running two community kitchens at the rate of Rs 50000 each under Jamalpur panchayat.
He said free food should be arranged at a distance of every 1/2 km for the flood-affected people.
A report from Darbhanga quoting District Magistrate Rajiv Roshan said that more than 2 lakh population living in 6 blocks were affected due to flood caused following breach in the Western embankment of river Kosi near Bhubol village under Kiratpur block.
He said that community kitchens were functioning at 25 places where more than 28447 floods affected people were getting food. 99 boats have been provided free of cost in the flood-affected areas where relief materials were being distributed on a war footing.
