Patna, Jan 19 (Reporter) Congress on Sunday sharply criticised the Nitish Kumar government for not conducting the caste census seriously in Bihar, which failed to serve the real purpose of providing relief to those who lagged on the path of development and prosperity.
Bihar Pradesh Congress Committee(BPCC) President Akhilesh Prasad Singh told media persons here that Nitish Kumar's government had not carried out the caste census seriously as it failed to serve its real purpose. The motive of the caste census was to provide relief to those who lagged on the path of development and prosperity but it was negated due to the ill intention of Nitish Kumar's government, he pointed out.
"Based on caste census report, a decision was taken by Nitish Kumar government to increase the upper reservation limit from 50 to 65 percent but it was quashed by Patna High Court and the case is still pending in Supreme Court ", Singh said adding that NDA was in power both at the Centre and in Bihar, so the issue of an increased limit of reservation could have been easily put in 9th schedule of the constitution. Who had prevented Narendra Modi government from placing the increased reservation limit in the 9th schedule, he asked.
BPCC President said that the leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi had rightly described the caste census conducted by the Nitish Kumar government as a farce.
