Nitish Kumar announces immediate rectification in schools

Patna, Feb 20 (Reporter) Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar on Tuesday announced to rectify the order of the education department, which altered the duration and functioning hours of schools across the state. Soon after the Lower House assembled for the day on Tuesday, the opposition members raised the issue of a change in the timing of schools from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. to 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Describing the timing as irrational, the opposition members demanded the removal of the additional chief secretary of the education department, KK Pathak, for issuing the order. Shouting slogans against the government, the opposition members trooped to the well and said that KK Pathak was not complying with the orders even of the chief minister. They, however, resumed their seats at the request of Speaker Nandkishor Yadav. Meanwhile, Chief Minister Nitish Kumar announced that he would rectify the order. He said, "The school hours should not be from 9 to 5:00; instead, they should function from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m." Trying to pacify the members Kumar said that he would talk to KK Pathak immediately in this connection and would ask him to change the timing. Kumar also extended his gratitude to the opposition members for drawing the attention of the House to the issue. Later, after question hour, the CPI ML member Satyadeo Ram, with the permission of the speaker, read his adjournment motion and raised the issue of discrepancies in the education department.
