NPP withdraws support to BJP-led govt in Manipur

Shillong, Nov 17 (Reporter) Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad Sangma-led National People’s Party (NPP) on Sunday withdrew its support the Bharatiya Janata Party-led coalition government in Manipur, blaming Chief Minister N. Biren Singh’s “failure” to resolve to the crisis and restore normalcy. In a letter to BJP President J.P.Nadda, Sangma, who is also the national president of NPP, expressed deep concern over the prevailing law and order situation in Manipur. “In the last few days, we have seen the situation further deteriorate where many more innocent lives have been lost and people in the State are going through immense suffering,” Sangma said. “We strongly feel that the Manipur State Government under the leadership of Shri Biren Singh has completely failed to resolve the crisis and restore normalcy,” the NPP national President stated. “Keeping the current situation in mind, the National People’s Party has decided to withdraw its support to the Biren Singh led Government in the State of Manipur, with immediate effect,” Sangma stated. In the 60-member Manipur Assembly, the NPP has 7 MLAs while the BJP has an absolute majority with 32 MLAs and the withdrawal of support by NPP, an alliance of the BJP at the Centre, Arunachal Pradesh and Meghalaya, poses no threat to the Biren Singh-led BJP government...////...
