Odisha: Another life lost in crocodile attack in coastal Kendrapara

Kendrapara (Odisha), Oct 17 (Reporter) In the latest incident of man-crocodile conflict, another life has been lost within Bhitarkanika National Park. A saltwater crocodile attacked a 51-year-old man, identified as Shiba Shankar Samant from Ratapanga village, under Lanjura Gram Panchayat of Mahakalapada block. The crocodile dragged him into the river while Samant was returning from the nearby forest with his cow, located on the bank of the Papuli River. As Samant was attempting to retrieve his cow from the riverbank, the crocodile allegedly pounced on his leg and pulled him into the water. Atal Bhuiyan, who accompanied Shiba to search for the missing cow, alerted Shiba’s family members. The family later informed the Gahirmatha Forest Ranger to initiate a search and rescue operation. Forest personnel and locals carried out search efforts, but to no avail. By midnight, fishermen recovered the body from the river.
