Odisha CM conducts aerial survey of Malkangiri, devastated by heavy rains

Bhubaneswar, Sep 12 (Reporter) Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Thursday directed the Malkangiri district collector to submit a report on the damages caused by the heavy rains in the district within a week. Majhi, who conducted an aerial survey of the devastation, chaired a review meeting with district officials and emphasized the need for immediate assistance for the damaged kachha (temporary) houses in the district. He also instructed the officials to prioritize the immediate restoration of power and communication in the affected areas. The Chief Minister stressed that the district administration must ensure that no one affected by the rains is deprived of government assistance. Majhi noted that zero casualties were achieved due to the district and police administrations' extensive precautionary measures. He praised the efforts of the Odisha Disaster Rapid Action Force (ODRAF) and fire service teams in the relief and rescue operations across the affected areas. State Revenue and Disaster Management Minister Suresh Pujari, Nabarangpur MP Balavadra Majhi, Malkangiri MLA Narasingha Madkami, State Chief Secretary Manoj Ahuja, Special Relief Commissioner Deoranjan Singh, DIG Southern Division Charan Singh Meena, and District Collector Ashish Iswar Patil attended the review meeting. Heavy rains hit Malkangiri district on September 9 and 10 due to a deep depression over the Bay of Bengal. Several parts of the district experienced flood-like conditions, with large areas submerged in rainwater, and road communication disrupted at various locations. According to official sources, the villages of Motu, Poteru, Girkanapali, Badili, and MV 07 were among the worst affected.
