Bhubaneswar, Aug 22 (Reporter) At least five people were killed and several others injured when an oil tanker, after colliding with a bus, rammed into a roadside tea stall at Samarjhola village in Odisha’s Ganjam district in the early hours of Thursday.
Eyewitness accounts stated that the mishap occurred around 5:30 am when a bus traveling from Aska to Berhampur collided with an oil tanker.
Following the collision, the oil tanker crashed into a roadside tea stall, killing four people who were having their morning tea at the stall. A passenger on the bus also died in the accident.
The oil tanker was badly damaged in the mishap. Local residents and police rescued the other bus passengers and shifted the injured to MKCG Medical College and Hospital in Berhampur.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, while expressing grief over the mishap, announced an ex-gratia of Rs 2 lakh each for the next of kin of the deceased and Rs 1 lakh for those critically injured in the accident.
