Odisha Police nab three dreaded Maoists in Malkangiri

Bhubaneswar, Dec 28 (Reporter) Odisha Police on Saturday apprehended three notorious Maoists involved in multiple attacks on security forces. Sources from the Odisha Police headquarters revealed that acting on precise intelligence inputs, the police arrested three hardcore Maoists, including an ACM rank cadre, who carried a combined reward of Rs.8 lakh. The arrests took place in Gunthawada village under the Chitrakonda police station in Malkangiri district. The arrested Maoists were involved in several cases of exchange of fire with security forces and other criminal activities. Interrogation of the suspects has revealed that they were planning further subversive activities in the region, including attacks on security forces. One of the arrested Maoists, identified as Swapna alias Chandrama Khilo, joined the Maoist group in 2018 under the Andhra-Odisha Border Special Zonal Committee (AOBSZC). She had been working with the AOBSZC Military Platoon in the Gumma area of Malkangiri district and carried a cash reward of Rs.4 lakh in Odisha. The second Maoist, Babita alias Kamala Khilo, joined the group in 2021. She served as a party member in the Uday Protection Team under the AOBSZC and carried a cash reward of Rs.2 lakh in Odisha. The third Maoist, Sunita Khilo, also joined the group in 2021 and worked as a party member in the Uday Protection Team under the AOBSZC. She, too, carried a cash reward of Rs.2 lakh in Odisha. Chandrama Khilo was involved in exchanges of fire in three villages in Malkangiri district, one village in Koraput district, and another in Chhattisgarh. She was also implicated in the burning of houses in Jodamba village under the Jodamba police station in Malkangiri district. Both Kamala Khilo and Sunita Khilo were involved in exchanges of fire in two villages in Malkangiri district and one village in Chhattisgarh. Security forces are working to ascertain their involvement in other criminal cases.
