Odisha records 21.07 pc polling in 4 hrs

Bhubaneswar, May 20 (Reporter) About 21.07 percent of 79.62 lakh voters have exercised their franchise in five Lok Sabha and 35 Assembly seats in Odisha in four hours, Chief Electoral Officer Nikunja Bihari Dhal said. The CEO said Bolangir Lok Sabha Constituency recorded the lowest polling percentage of 17.90 percent and Baragarha recorded 22.95 percent polling, the highest, followed by Sundergarha, 22.19 percent, Aska 21.53 percent and Kandhamal 21.19 per cent till 11 am. The polling which started at 7 am this morning recorded only 9.31 percent polling by 9am but it gradually picked up. The Jharsuguda Assembly seat recorded the highest polling per centage of 25.32 per cent by 11 am followed by Sundergarha 22.19 percent polling, Baragarha 22.06 per cent Ganjam 21.98 Boudh 21.75 per cent of polling till 11 am. Similarly Bolangir Assembly recorded the lowest voting percentage of 17.16 per cent. Today’s polling will seal the fate of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, who is contesting from both Hinjili and Kantabanji Assembly seats, his six council of ministers, two fomer union Ministers Jual Oram and Dillip Ray, four former Odisha ministers and several sitting MLAs. The polling will also decide the electoral fortunes of sitting MPs Jual Oram,(Sundargarh) Sangeeta Singdeo(Bolangir) and Achyuat Samant(Kandhamal). In the 2019 general elections, out of the five Lok Sabha seats, the BJP won the Sundargarh,Bolangir and Bargarh seat while the ruling BJD won Kandhamal and Aska Lok sabha seats. Similarly, out of 35 Assembly seats, the ruling BJD had won 26 Assembly seats in the 2019 election followed by four each by both BJP and Congress and one seat by the CPM...////...
