Odisha records 7.43 pc polling till 9 AM

Bhubaneswar, May 25 (Reporter) An estimated 7.43 percent of the total 94.8 lakh voters exercised their franchise till 9 AM in the third phase of polling in Odisha for 6 Parliamentary and 42 Assembly seats amid tight security on Saturday. Election Commission sources said the Bhubaneswar Parliamentary constituency recorded approximately 6.55 percent polling, Cuttack 7.32 percent ,Dhenkanal 7.95 percent, Keonjhar 8.74, Puri 6.87 and Sambalpur 7.09 per cent polling till 9 AM. The Begunia and Bhubaneswar central Assembly constituencies under Bhubaneswar Parliamentary constituency recorded 10 percent voter turnout. Khandapada Assembly Constituency under Cuttack Lok Sabha seats recorded 11 percent, Parjanga and Kamakhya Nagar Assembly Constituency under Dhenkanal Parliamentary segment recorded 9 percent. Patna Assembly constituency under Keonjhar Parliamentary constituency recorded 12.50 percent polling, Brahmagiri Assembly segment under Puri Parliamentary constituency reported 9 percent polling, and Rairakhol Assembly constituency under Sambalpur Parliamentary constituency reported 9.30 percent polling till 9 AM. The election will decide the fate of 64 Lok Sabha candidates in the six Lok Sabha seats and 383 candidates in the 42 Assembly seats. Polling is going on for Bhubaneswar, Cuttack, Puri, Sambalpur, Dhenkanal, and Keonjhar Lok Sabha seats, and 42 Assembly seats under these Parliamentary segments. The district administrations have set up decorated and model polling booths based on local themes, culture, and heritage, to attract more and more voters to the booths. Voting booths were decorated, showcasing the distinct culture and heritage of the area. CEO office sources said the polling is going on smoothly and no untoward incident has been reported from anywhere so far. However, the polling was delayed in several booths due to glitches in EVM causing a lot of inconvenience to the voters who were seen lining up in large numbers since early this morning to cast their ballot amid hot and humid conditions. Reports of delay in polling due to glitches in EVM were reported from booth no. 122 at Nayapalli, booth no 159 at Patrapada, booth no 24 at Barabati, Cuttack booth no 145 at Karabara, Banki, booth no 4 under Khordha Municipality, booth no 77,78,168,62 in Puri, booth no 49 & 50 at Krushnaprasad, Puri booth no 82 & 83 under Deogarh Municipality, booths no 131 & 225 under Keonjhar Sadar, booth no 206 & 207 in Champua, booth no 57 & 58 at Athamallik. Voting was also delayed in booth No 13 of Krishna Prasad,booth no 89 in Ghasipura, booth no 37 in Angul, booth No 6 at Cuttack Bidanasi, booth No 73 in Niladri Vihar, Bhubaneswar,booth no 145 and 96 in Banki, booth no 122 and 123 in Ghatgaon. Despite the heat and humidity, the voters were seen standing in long lines to cast their votes. Several prominent people were seen standing in long lines to cast their votes. Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik exercised his franchise at the Aerodrome UP School booth under Ekram Assembly constituency. Among the other prominent people who exercised their franchise were BJP Vice President Baijayant Panda, the BJP candidate for Kendrapara Lok Sabha Candidate who cast his vote in a booth in Rajbhavan UP school,Aparajita Sarangi, the sitting BJP MP from Bhubaneswar seeking reelection from Bhubaneswar to cast her vote in a booth in Nayapalli, State Chief Secretary P K Jena, CEO N B Dhal, former DGP Sunil Kumar Bansal. In Bhudan Nagar booth, Puri, the polling was delayed due to a technical fault for over one and a half hours. Puri BJP Lok Sabha candidate Sambit Patra cast his vote after standing in queue for a long time. He said several people returned without casting their vote after standing for a long time, as EVMs were found not working in around 14 booths. Patra appealed to people to return and cast their vote. Bureaucrat turned politician V K Pandian ,close aide of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, arrived at the Unit Six Government High School in an auto rickshaw and exercised his franchise.
