Bhubaneswar, June 1 (Reporter) An estimated 7.69 percent of the total 99.61 lakh voters exercised their franchise by 9 am in the final phase of election in Odisha on Saturday. The polling is going on smoothly and peacefully and no reports of any untoward incident was reported from anywhere so far. The Jagatsinghpur Parliamentary constituency recorded the highest polling percentage of 8.54 percent while the lowest voter turnout of 7.27 percent was reported from the Kendrapara seat. Bhadrak Lok Sabha constituency recorded 7.79 percent, Balasore 7.46 percent, Jajpur 7.74 percent and Mayurbhanj parliamentary constituency recorded 7.33 percent polling by 9 am. ECI sources said district wise the highest polling of 8.90 percent was recorded in Puri, followed by Jagatsinghpur 8.23 percent , Kendrapara 7.90 percent, Bhadrak 7.79 percent, Balasore 7.77 percent,Jajpur 7.74 percent, Mayurbhanj 7.10 percent. The voter turnout in Cuttack was 6.79 percent -- the lowest till 9 am. The voter turnout in Nilgiri Assembly constituency was 11.80 percent, highest among the 42 assembly seats, followed by 9.60 percent in Kakatpur, Dhamnagar (9.30 percent), Dharmasala and Niali 9 percent each till 9 am. Similarly the polling percentage was lowest in Mahangna Assembly segments (5.40 percent), followed by Remuna and Salipur 6.10 percent each, and Korei in Jajpur district 6.50 percent. Voting began amid heavy security for six Lok Sabha and 42 Assembly constituencies in Odisha. Voters were seen standing in long queues outside the booths from the early morning to cast their ballots. A total of 99.6 lakh voters will decide the fate of 66 candidates in the six Lok Sabha seats and 394 candidates contesting for the 42 Assembly seats. The polling was delayed in several places due to glitches in the EVM machine. Reports said in Mahakalapada assembly constituencies under Kendrapara Lok Sabha seat, malfunctioning of EVM machines was reported from as many as 30 polling booths. The EVM machines were rectified and the polling started in these booths, the Kendrapara District Collector said. BJP Candidate for Patkura Assembly constituency Tejeswar Parida expressed concern over the malfunctioning of EVMs. He said malfunctioning EVMs have been reported from at least 15 places. Polling was delayed for more than half hour in several places due to glitches in EVM. As many as 10,882 booths have been set up to help the voters to exercise their franchise. Out of the total 10,882 booths, 1,400 booths are managed by women . About 36,000 personnel including 126 companies of CAPF, 86 platoons of Odisha Armed Police, and 20,500 civil police have been deployed to ensure peaceful polling. The last phase of the election will decide the fate of Lok Sabha candidates BJP National Vice President Baijayant Panda (Kendrapara), former Union Ministers Pratap Sarangi, Congress candidate Srikant Jena (Balasore), and former MP Bibhu Prasad Tarai (Jagatsinghpur). The elections will also decide the fate of Odisha BJP President Manmohan Samal (Chandbali), former Odisha Congress President Niranjan Pattnaik (Bhandaripokhari), Odisha Assembly Speaker Pramila Mallik (Binjharpur), veteran BJD leader and former Minister Prafulla Samal (Bhadrak), and Odisha Ministers Atanu Sabyasachi Nayak (Mahakalpada), Pratap Deb (Aul), P. R. Gharai (Sukinda), and Tushar Kanti Behera (Kakatpur)...////...
