Bhubaneswar, Dec 10 (Reporter) About 7,500 delegates are expected to attend the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, to be held for the first time in Bhubaneswar from
January 8 to 10 to showcase Odisha's rich historical heritage, art, sculpture, music, dance, tribal culture, language, literature, and tourist attractions on the global stage.
Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi who reviewed the preparations for the event on Monday night stated that the state government is fully prepared to make it a grand and successful celebration.
Speaking on the occasion, Majhi noted that the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which began in 2003, is being hosted in Odisha for the first time. He described this as a golden opportunity to showcase Odisha on the global stage.
He added that Prime Minister Narendra Modi has attached great significance to this event and has urged for its organization to be flawless and attractive, further enhancing Odisha’s global reputation.
The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of maintaining cleanliness in Bhubaneswar, insisting that the city’s cleanliness should meet international standards. A special cleanliness campaign has been proposed to achieve this goal.
The review meeting highlighted that the External Affairs Minister will attend the event on January 8, the Prime Minister on January 9, and the President on January 10.
The program will feature plenary sessions on topics such as "Unraveling India’s Best Kept Secret" and "Odisha – The Land of Opportunities." In addition, Odisha's rich historical heritage, art, sculpture, music, dance, tribal culture, language, literature, and tourist attractions will be showcased through digital and other mediums.
The state’s vision for the years 2036 and 2047 will also be presented.
As part of the celebrations, 10 festivals will be organized in Bhubaneswar during the event, including, Rajarani Music Festival (January 7–11), Mukteswar Dance Festival (January 7–11), International Odissi Dance Festival (January 7–11),Tribal Dance and Folk Art Festival (January 7–11), Tribal Fair (January 5–15), Chilika Bird Festival (January 6–12), Flower Show (January 7–11), Food Fest (January 8–10) and Night Flea Market (January 8–10)
To prepare for the event, Bhubaneswar's streets are being renovated, illuminated, and attractively decorated. Tourist spots are also being beautified, with plans to take delegates to 28 destinations across cities like Bhubaneswar, Puri, Konark, and Jajpur.
Arrangements have been made to accommodate around 7,500 delegates, with more than 3,700 rooms already booked. Additionally, homestay options have been arranged in certain areas.
Various committees have been formed to ensure the smooth management of the program, holding regular meetings to expedite preparations.
The review meeting was attended by Deputy Chief Ministers Kanak Vardhan Singh Deo and Parvathi Parida, Urban Development and Housing Minister Krishna Chandra Mohapatra, Minister of Works and Law Prithviraj Harichandan, and Minister of Language, Literature, and Culture Suryavansi Suraj.
