Aizawl, Sept 28 (Reporter) Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla, currently in Mizoram for the 21st Commonwealth Parliamentary Association (CPA) Zone III Conference, actively participated in the Swachhta Abhiyan by performing Shramdaan in Aizawl on Saturday.
Earlier in the day, Birla visited the bustling Bara Bazaar, where he championed the 'Vocal for Local' initiative by purchasing a bamboo hat and other regional products.
He further underscored India's push towards a digital economy by making his purchases through UPI, seamlessly scanning the QR code to complete the transaction. His support of local artisans while promoting digital payments reflected a strong message of economic empowerment and modernisation.
Birla spent about 20 minutes interacting with shopkeepers and craftsmen in the market, exploring various stalls, including those selling fresh fruits and vegetables. His visit drew the attention of the public, and he graciously posed for photographs with many, creating a memorable experience for those present.
Following his market visit, Birla traveled to Falkawn, a village about 20 kilometers from Aizawl, where he met with local panchayat representatives. They briefed him on the village’s ongoing development projects, and Birla, impressed with their progress, encouraged them to continue their efforts.
