Chennai, Jan 14 (Reporter) About 60 passengers onboard a MEMU train escaped
hurt when a wheel of one of the coaches derailed at Villupuram Yard on Tuesday.
No one was hurt in the incident.
Southern Railway, in a clarification issued this evening, denied reports in a section
of the media as 'inaccurate' and 'misleading', that five coaches were derailed and
500 passengers were onboard when the incident happened.
It said one wheel of the fifth coach of MEMU Train No. 66013 derailed at Villupuram
Yard.
The derailment occurred at Point No. 144 (Diamond Crossing).
The MEMU was within Villupuram yard limits for shunting operations and only less
than 60 passengers were onboard.
"One wheel of the fifth coach of MEMU Train No. 66013 derailed at Villupuram Yard
at 0532 hrs on 14th January 2025(today). No injuries were reported, and the main
line remained clear with no disruption to traffic", it said.
"A few passengers were on board during the shunting on the MEMU rake. However
no injury to any passengers was reported", it said.
Passengers waiting for this train service were accommodated in Train no 11005
Dadar-Puducherry express which was halted at all stations en route to Puducherry
to ensure their travel without further delay.
The movement towards Puducherry was temporarily affected, and restoration work
was completed by 0840 hrs...////...
