Pune, May 4 (Reporter) Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Saturday demanded the opposition parties apologise for having spread "false propaganda" about Hyderabad University Ph/D scholar Rohith Vemula's death in 2016, with the Telangana police filing a case closure report for lack of "sufficient evidence" and surmising that the victim was not a Dalit. Sitharaman described Vemula's suicide as an "unfortunate incident", but said the opposition parties' attempt to create a "false image" in front of the country by spreading "false propaganda" that he was a Dalit was even worse. She mentioned that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had raised this issue in Parliament. Sitharaman said the opposition parties should now "apologise" to the country and Rohit Vemula's family. Assailing the Congress for not making any special efforts to restore India's glory after forking the government soon after independence, she said the then ruling party failed to create the belief that the country could become a superpower again. She said in contrast the Narendra Modi government, since coming to power in 2014, has laid special emphasis on higher education. Due to this, many quality options for higher education have been created in India, and the number of people going abroad for higher studies has decreased. Sitharaman was delivering a lecture on education and the contribution of teachers to the Prime Minister's vision of a developed India. She said the New Education Policy policy brought about by PM Modi will create a "new revolution" in India. "The new policy will bring flexibility to education. Credit banks will be available to students. Accordingly, they can include other subjects of interest in their education. "All types of higher education, including technical education, will be available in the mother tongue. Therefore, quality higher education will be available to those who have stayed away from higher or technical education due to the pressure of English," she said...////...
