Imphal, Jan 30 (Reporter) People of Manipur joined the nation in observing Martyrs' Day to honour the Father of the Nation, Mahatma Gandhi, and those who sacrificed their lives for the country's independence.
The day holds significance as it marks the 77th Death Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla paid the people homage by laying a wreath at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Memorial Hall in Imphal.
Chief Minister, N. Biren Singh, Cabinet Ministers, MLAs laid wreaths at the Mahatma's statue.
Besides the singing of Bhajans, a two-minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed freedom fighters.
CM N Biren said, "Paying my humble tributes to the Father of the Nation, Pujya Bapu on his Punya Tithi. Let us uphold his teachings of non-violence, the principles of truth and self-reliance which continue to inspire millions of people around the world."
