Chennai, Apr 10 (Reporter) Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday condoled the death of
veteran dravidian leader and former Tamil Nadu Minister R.M.Veerappan due to old age.
Mr Veerappan, affectionately called as RMV and a lieutenant and mentor of AIADMK Founder
MGR, died at a private hospital on Tuesday.
He had served in the MGR and J Jayalalithaa cabinets and shares good rapport with several
political leaders including the late DMK Chief M Karunanidhi and present Chief Minister
M.K.Stalin.
After his expulsion from AIADMK by Ms Jayalalithaa, he founded the MGR Kazhagam and
remained as its Chief till his death.
He was also a popular film producer under his production unit Sathya movies, which has
produced several box office hits with MGR, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan in lead roles
Condoling his death, Mr Modi in a post on X said "Pained by passing away of Thiru
RM Veerappan Ji."
"He will be remembered for his contribution to public service and popularising the ideals
of the great MGR. He also played an active role in the world of films. Condolences to his
family and admirers. Om Shanti", Mr Modi said.
Leaders of various political parties including Mr Stalin, AIADMK General Secretary Edappadi K.Palaniswami, ousted AIADMK leader O.Panneerselvam, BJP State President K.Annamalai,
DMDK General Secretary Ms Premalatha Vijayakanth, PMK Founder Dr.S.Ramadoss, PMK
President and Rajya Sabha MP Dr Anbumani Ramadoss, MDMK General Secretary and Rajya
Sabha member Vaiko, among others also condoled Mr Veerappan's death.
Leaders of various parties also paid their last respects to the mortal remains of Veerappan, whose last rites will be performed on Wednesday evening...////...
