PM scheduled to hold mega Kolkata roadshow on Tuesday

Kolkata, May 28 (Reporter) Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to hold a mega roadshow on Tuesday for BJP candidates in the West Bengal capital barely three days ahead of the final seventh phase polling. "Bengal, gears up to witness PM Modi's grand roadshow in Kolkata on 28th May, 4 PM onwards. From Shyambazar to Vivekananda Road, the streets will bloom with lotus," party's state president Sukanta Majumdar said. Bengal votes on June 1 for the remaining nine seats out of 42 Lok Sabha segments. PM Modi, the face for all the BJP candidates for 2024 General election, visited the state several times since March. The septuagenarian politician is expected to arrive later this afternoon after a campaign in neighbouring Jharkhand. He would also pay tribute to Sarada Maa (Wife of Ramakrishna Paramhansa) at Mother's House in Bagbazar in north Kolkata. According to the BJP, Modi will arrive on Tuesday afternoon and then hold a rally at Ashoknagar in Barasat constituency (North 24 Parganas) around 2.30 pm and then in Jadavpur (South Kolkata) at 4 pm. Around 5.55 pm, Modi will pay floral tributes at the statue of Subhas Chandra Bose and then lead a road show from Shyambazar to the birthplace of Swami Vivekananda at Simla Street in North Kolkata. Majumdar said the previous roadshow plan was also in central Kolkata, but for unknown reason the police announced on May 22 that parts of central Kolkata will be under Prohibitory Orders with effect from May 28, the day Modi was to hold the mega-roadshow. "Information has been received from credible sources that violent demonstrations are likely to take place resulting in large scale disturbances of the public tranquility and breach of the peace in the areas falls under Bowbazar Police station, Hare Street Police station and Headquarters Traffic Guard which is from K.C.Das crossings (Esplanade) towards Victoria House (CESC headquarters) and its vicinity excluding Bentinck Street, " Kolkata Police Commissioner Vinit Kumar Goyal said in a communication whilst clamping the prohibitory orders on May 22. The Kolkata Police has issued a traffic advisory to ensure smooth commuting during PM Narendra Modi's poll campaign in the city. “In view of the public safety and convenience in connection with visit of the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to the city of Kolkata on 28.05.2024 and 29.05.2024. I, Vineet Kumar Goyal, Commissioner of Police, Kolkata, do hereby order that movement and parking of vehicles for the city of Kolkata shall be regulated in the following manner notwithstanding any other orders in force on 28.05.2024 and 29.05.2024, " quoted the traffic police in a statement. According to the advisory, the movement of all types of goods vehicles will be restricted in some places in Kolkata between 3 pm and 9 pm on Tuesday and from 8 am to 12.30 pm on Wednesday—or until Modi's visit is over.
