Bhubaneswar, Nov 8 (Reporter) The Commissionerate of Police, Cuttack has arrested six people in connection with the alleged gang rape of a college student in Cuttack.
Cuttack DCP Jagmohan Meena told a press conference at Cuttack on Friday that three people were arrested on November 5 and three on the next day. The accused were arrested under various sections of IPC,SC/ST, and IT Act.
The mobile phones of all the six accused have been seized and sent to the Forensic laboratories for examination.
He said the chargesheet in the case will be filed soon.
Meena said the police swung into action promptly after the victim complained on November 4 and arrested them.
The DCP said one of the accused is a minor.
Sources said the victim, a third -year commerce student had gone to a cafe in the Purighat area with her boyfriend to celebrate her birthday during Dusherra.
In the cafe, while the boyfriend allegedly had physical relationship with the girl and one of his friends videographed the act.
Later they blackmailed the girl showing the video and asked her to come to various places. A few days ago they had taken the girl to Barang and gangraped her.
Odisha Minister for Law Prithviraj Harichandan said his government has a zero tolerance policy for crime against women. Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has reiterated it on various platforms. He said the government would do whatever was possible under the law and ensure strict action against the accused.
