Bhubaneswar, Nov 17 (Reporter) politics without morality is hypocrisy, former Odisha Chief Minister and BJD President Naveen Patnaik said here on Sunday. Speaking on the occasion of the 91st birth anniversary of the great social and political leader Harishchandra Baxipatra, Patnaik stated that Baxipatra holds a special place in the political history of Odisha and India. He emphasized that only a dedicated and committed politician with high moral standards can bring about transformative changes in people’s lives. Patnaik further remarked, "Politics is a commitment — a commitment to work for an ideal and to provide unconditional service to the people." He noted that while many view politics as a springboard to power, he believes that the love of the people is far more important than power, status, or position. "In fact, the satisfaction of the people is the greatest asset for a leader," the BJD supremo observed. Highlighting Baxipatra’s life, Patnaik said the late leader, an ardent follower of socialism, began his career as a student leader. Baxipatra’s relentless fight against exploitation and his advocacy for farmers, tribals, and the underprivileged are unparalleled in Odisha’s history. Patnaik also noted that Baxipatra was a close associate of legendary leader Biju Patnaik and served in his cabinet, holding important portfolios. "Baxipatra’s life and work reflected his firm faith in socialist principles," Patnaik said, describing him as a true friend of the poor and deprived.
