Vijayawada, Oct 26 (Reporter) Andhra Pradesh Minister for Energy Gottipati Ravi Kumar attributed the hike of power tariff to the Jagan Mohan Reddy headed erstwhile government’s unwise decision and huge corruption. Talking to the media in the Secretariat on Saturday, the Energy Minister said that due to the ill-advised decisions taken by the Jagan Reddy headed government in the last five years, the burden of electricity charges is currently falling on the people. Minister Ravi Kumar expressed his anger that people's money was looted by the YSRCP leaders. The Jagan Reddy headed previous government cancelled the PPA agreements signed by the then TDP led government, he noted. He alleged that the YSRCP government has ruined the AP Genco, which earned a reputation for power generation, the then YSRCP government had borrowed loans from private individuals at higher interest rates. “The Jagan Reddy headed government had not followed transparency in power purchasings during its five years regime. The power purchases were made on ‘quid pro quo’ basis to siphon money which was shifted to Tadepalli palace,” he lambasted. “The then Chief Minister Jagan Reddy and Energy Minister Peddireddy Ramachandra Redy managed not only the electricity purchases but also the whole matter of coal purchases secretly. The mischievous and misdeeds committee during the five years YSRCP regime in the electricity policies now wrapped around people's necks through adjustment charges,” the Energy Minister flayed. Minister Ravi Kumar revealed that electricity charges have been increased 9 times in the last five years due to Jagan Mohan Reddy's wrong policies. Moreover, due to the corrupt deeds of the Jagan Reddy led government, the people of AP are currently burdened with another Rs.11,826.42 crores for the year 2023-24. Two years ago, the Discoms requested the ERC to collect this amount from the people but the issue had been kept pending, he mentioned. In fact, the amount had to be collected from March 2024, but the then YSRCP government did not collect due fear of people’s anger before elections, he acknowledged.
