Kolkata, Feb 10 (Reporter) Prohibitory orders, dear Section 144 CR PC, have been clamped in West Bengal's Sandeshkhali block in South 24 Parganas, and the internet services were suspended on Saturday, a night after protests from local people demanding the arrest of absconding TMC leader Sahjahan Sheikh and his two close friends turned violent. An irate mob torched the accused's poultry farms and immovable assets, official sources said. The local administration has clamped down on prohibitory orders since Friday night, armed state police began a route march to restore normalcy in the areas after the local people, mostly the local women villagers, while protesting against the trio, set fire to their immovable assets demanding immediate arrest of them. The protests, which had been brewing for the past few days, turned violent for the last three days, including the protest in front of Najat police station. The protesters have been demanding the arrest of the absconding Trinamool Congress leader Sheikh Shajahan and his associates as the formers turned violent, setting fire to poultry farms, and a house was vandalized. Shahjahan, who is on the radar of the CBI and Enforcement Directorate, has been absconding since January 5, accused of orchestrating attacks on the ED officials and the CRPF jawans when the federal agency went to raid his house in relation to alleged ration scam. Local people alleged the trio was very much around Sandeshkhali, but The state police were failing to arrest them. The trio was also accused of forcefully grabbing the lands, which were being used for village paths and filling the water bodies to erect the poultry farms and other immovable assets for personal use. Holding sticks, sharp materials used for farming, and other objects, The local people took out processions in different areas as protests intensified on the third day (Friday) of the agitation. In the afternoon, the house of Shajahan’s aide, Shibu Prasad Hazra, was vandalized, police said. Also, there are three poultry farms in Zeliakhali belonging to Uttam Hazra were set ablaze. Nearly a dozen people have been arrested so far in relation to the violent incidents. Official sources said after the prohibitory orders were clamped, an Uneasy calm prevailed in the areas, with shops and markets remaining closed this morning. Ruling TMC leaders in Kolkata said the current Sandeshkhali incidents were the political conspiracy to divert the attention of people from the "historic" state budget, TMC's ongoing MGNREGA dharna. "Sandeshkhali incidents were the political conspiracy hatched by CPI (M) and BJP to deflect attention from the widely acknowledged state budget," an AITC statement said. BJP state secretary Sukanta Majumdar alleged that the villagers at Sandeshkhali were protesting against long-standing issues like land grabbing and kidnappings and other crimes orchestrated by ruling leaders in the area.
