Hyderabad, June 26 (Reporter) Rahul Gandhi becoming the Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha marks a turning point in the movement for safeguarding democracy in the country, Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) Senior Vice President G Niranjan said on Wednesday.
Speaking to media at Gandhi Bhavan, Niranjan highlighted Rahul Gandhi's dedication to protecting people's rights, noting his extensive tours and tireless efforts as the leader of the Congress Party.
Despite Rahul Gandhi's initial reluctance to assume the role of Leader of Opposition, public sentiment strongly favoured his leadership, he said.
Niranjan remarked on the irony of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who had previously criticised Rahul Gandhi as "Pappu" and "Shehzada," now facing him as the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, calling it "God's punishment" for Modi.
Pointing to Speaker Om Birla moving a resolution on the Emergency, Niranjan said the aim was to target the Congress party.
Niranjan recalled that after the Emergency in 1975, Indira Gandhi lost the 1977 elections but took responsibility for her mistakes. Despite her admission, the BJP continues to use Emergency to target the Congress Party.
He pointed out that the Janata Party, which came to power in 1977, collapsed within three years due to internal differences, leading to Indira Gandhi's victory in the 1980 elections and her return as Prime Minister. Niranjan emphasised that the BJP seems to have forgot this historical fact that no party’s rule or loss of power is permanent...////...
