Kolhapur / Sindhudurg, Aug 28 (Reporter) BJP MP Narayan Rane claimed on Wednesday that the statue of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj collapsed due to rainy weather in coastal Konkan region of Maharashtra while demanding for an inquiry and stern action against contractor and structural consultant.
Talking to reporters in Malvan town of the district this afternoon after a scuffle between his supporters and Shiv Sena (Thackeray) and Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) supporters at Rajkot fort -- the site of the statue, he said that the statue, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in December 2023, collapsed due to inclement weather conditions in the district as it receives heavy rainfall.
So, instead of accusing and blaming anyone for the collapse of the statue, contractor and structural consultant should be investigated, and action should be taken against them, he said.
The BJP leader said that the cause behind the collapse should be disclosed, and action should be taken against them, he asserted.
Criticising opposition in the state, he accused the opposition of trying to capitalise of the incident in the run-up to state assembly election.
On Uddhav Thackeray calling him a 'Shivdrohi' (Shiv betrayor), Rane replied that it would be wrong to expect good language from Thackeray.
He accused the former chief minister of failing to bring any industry nor creating jobs nor building any dam in the state during his tenure.
The Sena chief even installed Bal Thackeray's statue at Shivaji Park from the government's funds, he added...////...
