Kolkata, Jan 30 (Reporter) Debutant Sumit Mohanta (4-58) made an impressive start to his first-class career while Suraj Sindhu Jaiswal (4-68) was brilliant once again as Bengal bowled out Punjab for 191 in their first innings of the Ranji Trophy match at the Eden Gardens here on Thursday.
Besides the duo, Md Kaif (2-41) also bagged crucial wickets at the end.
While wickets fell at regular intervals at the other end, Punjab’s Anmol Malhotra stood firm, playing
a fighting knock off 106 not out off 114 balls.
In reply, Bengal, in their first innings, were 119/4 at stumps on the opening day, trailing by just 72 runs.
Sumanta Gupta (39 not out) and Suraj (5 not out) remained unbeaten at the end. Skipper Anustup Majumdar also scored a crucial 32 off 44.
The day was also memorable for young and talented all-rounder Vishal Bhati, as the Under-19 star made his debut for the senior side...////...
