Bhubaneswar, Aug 17 (Reporter) Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju expressed his serious concern over the rape and murder of a doctor at the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkotta on August 9.
Rijiju, who arrived here to inaugurate the two-day-long orientation program of the newly elected members of the Odisha Legislative Assembly, described the issue as a
societal and security issues.
He said everybody is concerned about the West Bengal incident. He said that the health department had taken whatever steps were required.
Speaking to newspersons, the Union Minister said the issue is not confined to doctors and nurses only but is a concern for everyone. It affected everyone, leading to nationwide agitation.
The doctors throughout the country, including Odisha, are agitating in response to a call given by the Indian Medical Association (IMA).
All OPD and other non-emergency medical services were almost paralysed in Odisha as over 6,000 junior doctors went on a 24-hour strike beginning from 6 a.m. on August 17 to 6 a.m. on August 18.
IMA Odisha Unit Secretary Dr. P. K. Ray said a demonstration would be held in front of the IMA office at 5 p.m. on August 17.
The doctors in AIIMS, Bhubaneswar, VIMSAR Burla, SCB Medical College and Hospital Cuttack, MKCG Medical College, and Hospital Berhampur have ceased work in protest...////...
