Mumbai, Oct 7 (Reporter) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president Nana Patole on Monday reiterated his demand to remove controversial Rashmi Shukla from the post of director-general of police (DGP).
Last month, on September 24, the Congress state president had written a letter to the Chief Election Commissioner demanding the removal of DGP Shukla while the CEC was on a tour of the state.
He said that such biased officers should be immediately sacked, as it casts a doubt over transparent and impartial conduct of assembly election.
Objecting to Shukla being given illegal extension as DGP of the state, the MPCC chief alleged that the high-ranking police official has a record of many serious crimes and accused her of working for BJP.
The extension to Rashmi Shukla in the run-up to the state assembly election has raised doubts. This decision of the state government is politically motivated and influences the electoral process.
Such an extension, bypassing the norms laid down by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) for the appointment of senior police officers, could lead to a misstep. It is feared that similar appointments will be made in other states in future.
