Hyderabad, April 5 (Reporter) Renowned Telugu news reader Shanti Swarup breathed his last at a Corporate hospital here on Friday while undergoing treatment for heart-related ailments.
He was 75 years old and is survived by his wife and two sons. Swarup was admitted to the hospital two days ago following a heart attack and succumbed to his condition this morning.
Shanti Swarup was a trailblazer in Telugu news broadcasting, being the first Telugu news reader. His legacy is marked by a decade of dedicated service, notably delivering news without the aid of a teleprompter. He commenced his career with Doordarshan in November 1983, where he continued until his retirement in 2011. In recognition of his contributions, he was honoured with the Lifetime Achievement Award for News Reading.
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed his condolences on Twitter, describing Shanti Swarup as a first-generation newsreader who had left a lasting impact on Telugu broadcasting.
Since 1983, Shanti Swaroop has been a prominent figure in Telugu news reading. His dedicated service at Doordarshan has left an indelible mark on the people of Telugu-speaking states.
