Bengaluru, June 5 (Reporter) Following reports of trekkers from Karnataka stranded in the Himalayan region of Uttarakhand, the Karnataka state government has swiftly formed a special team and appointed a nodal officer to oversee their rescue and safe return. Krishna Byre Gowda, Karnataka's Minister for Disaster Management, stated that all rescue efforts are ongoing with support from the Uttarakhand government, the Indian Mountaineering Federation, and the Home Department of the Government of India. In an official release on Wednesday, the minister confirmed, "The rescued trekkers are reaching Dehradun. We are also receiving reports of casualties, which we are working to verify with local authorities and private agencies. Four helicopters and three Indian Air Force helicopters are being deployed in the rescue operation." According to the Disaster Management Department, 19 trekkers from Bengaluru were on a trekking expedition to the Sahastra Tal Mayak stretch in Uttarkashi. The department received this information from Uttarakhand's District Emergency Officer (DEO) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) last evening, prompting immediate rescue efforts. The trekkers were on a trip organized by a private agency, the minister noted. The government has appointed Vipul Bansal as the nodal officer responsible for the rescue operation. He will travel to Dehradun to coordinate the return of the stranded trekkers. The official order dated June 5 states that the trekkers were trapped near Sahastra Tal Mayak due to adverse weather conditions. The district administration has initiated a search operation with forest department staff. Preliminary reports indicate that a few trekkers are missing.
