Mumbai, Jan 26 (Reporter) Maharashtra Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) President Nana Patole on Friday appealed to the public to take a pledge on Republic Day to take down the religious forces that do not adhere to the principles of freedom, democracy, and the Constitution. While addressing the gathering at Tilak Bhavan, the party headquarters in Mumbai, after hoisting the tricolour flag on the occasion of 75th Republic Day, he said that the great Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar had said that the day religious powers take control over the nation, democracy will end. What he had said then is clearly evident today. A great battle had to be fought, and sacrifices had to be made to get the country’s independence. There are bigoted forces in power today, and democracy, the Constitution, and all democratic systems are being trampled upon. Patole further said that Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar was a visionary leader, and the fear expressed by him is coming true today. In the country today, fights are happening in the name of caste and religion. While people of different languages, castes, religions, and cultures are living in this country, work is being done to break the country. The rights of OBCs, tribals, SCs, and STs are being curtailed. An attempt is being made to end Gandhi-Nehru thought. All four pillars of democracy are under threat. An essay competition on Mahatma Gandhi was organised in Pune, but the government tried to prevent this competition from taking place.
