Kolkata, Oct 6 (Reporter) The troubled RG Kar Medical College and Hospital has expelled ten medics, including three house staff, one senior resident, three interns and as many medical students for their involvement in alleged threat culture in the colonial era health facility now run by the West Bengal government, official sources said on Sunday. The decision to expel them was taken at a special college council members meeting on Saturday for allegedly threatening others. According to the complainants, these medics issued threats to students that they would ensure they failed their examinations or get ousted from the college hostel. The accused medics also allegedly forced other juniors to join a particular political party, indulged in sexual harassment and misconduct and extortion. They were also involved in lodging of false FIRs against students and physical violence, a college council statement said. Those expelled include Dr Ashish Pandey, a house staff close to former R G Kar principal Sandip Ghosh, who was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in connection with financial irregularities and corruption. The special college council members held the meeting after a report of the Institutional Enquiry Committee found the 10 staff and students guilty and decided to expel them until further notice. Besides, the names of those against whom “substantial evidence of sexual harassment against women” was found have been forwarded to the Internal Complaints Committee. After the August 9 brutal rape and murder of a lady doctor at R G Kar Medical College, a section of junior medics gave written complaints of “threat culture” in the campus. On September 10, the authorities sent notices to 51 doctors, house staff, and interns for allegedly engaging in behaviour that promotes a culture of intimidation. They were called before an inquiry committee. After a hearing and investigation by the inquiry committee, a report was submitted to the college authorities. Names of the 10 medics have also been forwarded to the West Bengal Medical Council for evaluation of their medical registration certificates. Names of 49 others, who have been charged under three other categories, will be forwarded to the internal complaints committee of RG Kar and also to the anti-ragging committee for investigation and disciplinary action. Those expelled include house staff Ashish Pandey, who is now in CBI custody, senior resident Sourav Paul, house staff Abhishek Sen and Ayushree Thapa, interns Nayan Bagchi, Sarif Hasan and Neelagni Debnath. The list also mentions names of Amarendra Singh, Tanweer Ahmed Kazi and Satpal Singh...////...
