Tiruchirapalli (Tamil Nadu) July 10 (Reporter) The Railway Protection Force (RPF) on Wednesday seized unaccounted 2.75 kilogrammes of gold ornaments valued at Rs 1.89 crore and a cash of Rs 15.5 lakhs from a passenger of the Chennai Egmore-Mangaluru Central Express train at Tiruchirapalli Railway Junction. The RPF personnel detained a suspicious looking passenger, identified as Lakshmanan, a native of Madurai from one of the coaches, when the train reached the Tiruchirapalli Railway Junction, police said. Upon verifying his bag, it was found he possessed the gold ornaments and cash without any valid documents. The seized gold was in the form of chains, bracelets, bangles and others. Prima facie, it appears that Lakshmanan was bringing the gold jewels from Chennai to deliver to some local jewellery shops at Madurai. However, since he does not possess any valid documents, he was taken to the RPF office, where he was grilled by senior police officials. The matter was reported to the GST and Income tax department, since it was suspected to be a Tax evasion case for further investigation...////...
