Mumbai, May 24 (Reporter) The Rupee on Friday was seen strong at 83.17, up 17 paise against USD in opening session on selling of US Dollar by bankers and exporters, dealers at the Foreign Exchange said. The local unit shoot up as the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) announced Rs 2.11 lakh crore record dividend to the government for the fiscal ended March 31. The domestic unit advanced because of weak dollar against other world currencies despite negative opening in stock market.
