Lucknow, Apr 17 (Reporter) The Uttar Pradesh government is empowering women in rural areas by training them in masonry work and involving them in the construction of village houses, official sources said here on Thursday.
Sources said that the UP government's 'Rural Mason Training' initiative is equipping women with enhanced skills and craftsmanship, transforming them into skilled 'Rani Mistris'.
"The initiative is not only opening up new employment opportunities but is also promoting self-reliance and empowerment among rural women. In a field once dominated by men, women are now stepping forward and gaining recognition for their talent and hard work," they said.
Sources said that the programme is also a tribute to the ideals of BR Ambedkar, supporting his vision of equality and upliftment by enabling women to contribute to community development on an equal footing.
Sources said that to ensure high-quality housing under the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Rural) and the Mukhyamantri Awas Yojana (Rural), the Rural Development Department in UP has trained over 45,000 Raj Mistris and 7,017 Rani Mistris so far.
"This initiative is helping women step forward and work alongside men in building stronger, more durable homes in villages," they said.
Sources said that these women are receiving proper training and certification, allowing them to find work in bigger construction projects and with professional agencies, earning better wages and building financial independence.
Sources said that the training is organised as per the Rural Mason Qualification Pack (QP) of the National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC). "Experienced masons receive a 15-day course, while new trainees go through a 45-day training programme. Along with technical knowledge, the programme helps improve the pace and quality of construction," they said.
Sources said that the inclusion of Rani Mistris is a powerful step towards women’s empowerment.
"As the number of trained masons grows, construction work is progressing faster and with better quality. These skilled workers are now in demand for both government and private projects, leading to a steady rise in their income. The active involvement of Rani Mistris has also helped ensure safer and more durable homes for rural families," they said.
Sources said that the Rural Mason Training initiative is a key step toward Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision of holistic rural development. "By bringing women to the forefront, the programme is not only improving housing but also giving rural women new confidence, skills and dignity," they added...////...
