Hyderabad, Sep 15 (Reporter) South Central Railway (SCR) General Manager Arun Kumar Jain inspected the ‘Kavach, Version 3.2’ system during a journey on the Tungabhadra Express between Secunderabad and Umdanagar on Sunday.
During the inspection, the General Manager reviewed the functioning of several components, including KAVACH towers, trackside equipment, and the signalling system. The Kavach system (version 3.2) has been introduced for commercial operation following successful trials on the Nagarsol–Mudkhed–Secunderabad–Dhone–Guntakal and Bidar–Parli Vaijnath–Parbhani sections, covering 1,200 route kilometres of the South Central Railway.
Kavach helps loco pilots maintain speed limits by automatically applying brakes if they fail to do so. It also ensures safe train operation during adverse weather conditions.
Speaking on the occasion, the General Manager highlighted that the KAVACH system has been certified with the highest level of Safety Integrity Level (SIL4) by an Independent Safety Assessor, ensuring prevention of train collisions in block sections and along running lines at stations.
He added that the system also reduces incidents of signal passing at danger, significantly improving the safety of train operations. The zone is planning to upgrade the KAVACH system to version 4.0 in the near future.
The General Manager also inspected Umdanagar Railway Station, reviewing passenger amenities, the circulating area, and safety-related installations for the KAVACH system. He discussed future development plans for the station, considering the growing needs and demands.
