Senior BJD MLA R P Swain sworn in as Protem Speaker of Odisha Assembly

Bhubaneswar, June 14 (Reporter) Senior BJD MLA Ranendra Pratap Swain was sworn in on Friday as Pro-Tem Speaker of the Odisha Legislative Assembly. Odisha Governor Raghubar Das administered the oath to Swain at a simple function in Raj Bhawan in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi. State Chief Secretary P K Jena, Chief Advisor to the Governor Santosh Kumar Satpathy, Principal Secretary to the Governor Saswat Mishra, and Odisha Assembly Secretary Dasarathi Satpathy, along with other senior officials, were also present on the occasion. Odisha Assembly sources said all the newly elected MLAs will be sworn in on June 18 and 19 by the ProTem Speaker. The election for the Speaker post will be held on June 20. The BJP, which has a strength of 81 members in the 147-member Odisha Assembly, has announced Surama Padhy, who was elected from the Ranpur Assembly seat, as its candidate for the Speaker post. BJP Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, his two deputies, eight cabinet ministers, and five ministers of state with independent charge have already been sworn in by the Governor on June 12. In the 2024 Assembly election, the BJP won 78 seats, and later, three independents who were elected joined the BJP, taking the party's strength to 81.
