Senthilbalaji walks out of prison after 471 days, accorded rousing reception, says cases foisted, politically motivated

Chennai, Sep 26 (Reporter) Crackers were burst, fireworks lit the sky, as former Tamil Nadu Minister and ruling DMK strongman V.Senthilbalaji walked out of Puzhal Central prison on Thursday night, after 471 days of incarceration to a rousing reception, and said the cases against him were foisted, face it legally and prove his innocence. As he stepped out from prison at around 1915 hrs after being granted bail by the Apex Court following his arrest in a money laundering case filed by the ED in the cash for jobs scam during the previous AIADMK regime, Mr Senthilbalaji appeared cheerful as a large number of DMK leaders, functionaries, cadres and his supporters, accorded a rousing reception, carrying party flags and beating of drums. Mr Senthilbalaji, who was in prison for more than 15 months, was released after the legal formalities were completed in the Principal Session Court by complying with the bail conditions imposed by the Apex Court, including furnishing of bonds with two sureties for Rs 25 lakh. After the PSJ Court communicated to the prison authorities that legal formalities were completed, Mr Senthilbalaji was released from prison and was received by DMK Organising Secretary R S Bharthi. In a brief inter-action with the media, the former Minister, who in all probability will be re-inducted into the State Cabinet after a meeting with Chief Minister and DMK President M K Stalin tomorrow after his return from New Delhi where he has gone to meet Prime Minister seeking to release pending dues from the Centre, Senthilbalaji said the cases against him were politically motivated and foisted against him. He said he would face the cases in the cOurt legally and come out clean and prove his innocence. From the prison, Mr Senthilbalaji drove straight down to the Marina beach front and paid homage at the memorial of DMK Founder C N Annadurai and late leader M Karunanidhi, both former CMs. Senior Ministers accompanied him. Later he proceeded to a hospital for medical check up. DMK cadres across the state, including in his home town of Karur, celebrated the Supreme Court order granting bail and continued the celebrations to mark his release from prison.
