Pudukottai (Tamil Nadu), Feb 19 (Reporter) In yet another incident raising safety concerns
of girl students, a sexual assault bid was made on a student, resulting in the arrest
of the Assistant Head Master (AHM) of a Government School, even as BJP staged
a protest on Wednesday demanding his resignation.
The Thirumayam all-women police in Pudukottai on Monday arrested the AHM under
POCSO Act and Section 7 of the Juvenile Justice (Protection of Children) Act, after
one of the victims complained the Child helpline for inappropriately touching girl students
in the school.
The accused was remanded to 14 days judicial custody by the Pudukottai Mahila Court
yesterday and the AHM was placed under suspension by the school education department
today, triggering condemnation from Opposition parties in the State.
Meanwhile, scores of BJP workers, including women staged road roko near the Pudukottai
Collector Office today evening, demanding the resignation of Tamil Nadu School Education
Minister Anbil Mahesh Poyyamozhi and Law Minister S.Regupathy following the arrest of
the AHM of a government high school on charges of sexual harassment of several girl students.
The BJP workers, led by party’s Pudukottai West District President Ramachandran and
East District President Jagadeesan took out a procession from Paalpannai locality to the
District Collectorare and staged a protest, condemning the incident.
As the police denied permission to the procession, the BJP workers squatted on the
Tiruchirapalli-Pudukottai main road and raised slogans against the Tamil Nadu government’s
failure to prevent sexual harassment on women, especially girls.
They also demanded immediate resignation of the two Ministers.
At one stage, when the agitators attempted to defy police order, the cops forcibly arrested
over 300 BJP men and women.
Meanwhile, BJP state president K.Annamalai strongly condemned the arrest of BJP workers
for staging a protest in Pudukottai.
In a post on ‘X’, tonight he said BJP cadre protested today, condemning the sexual harassment
of seven Pudukottai government school girls by a school teacher and condemning the DMK
government for not stopping the increasing number of sexual crimes in Tamil Nadu.
"I strongly condemn the DMK government for not preventing sexual crimes and for forcibly arresting
and imprisoning BJP brothers and sisters, who fought democratically", he said and urged the DMK
government to immediately release all of them, he added...////...
