Patna, June 9 (Reporter) Shambhavi Choudhary, daughter of Bihar Rural Works Minister Ashok Choudhary, has made history by becoming the first woman parliamentarian from the Samastipur (SC) constituency. Contesting on a Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) ticket, she defeated Congress candidate Sunny Hazari by a margin of 1,87,251 votes in the 2024 general elections. Her win marks a milestone, as no woman has won from Samastipur since the first general elections in 1957. The election gained attention due to the candidacy of the children of two Bihar ministers, Ashok Choudhary and Maheshwar Hazari. Both Shambhavi and Sunny were first-time contenders. Shambhavi, a graduate of Lady Shri Ram College and a master's degree holder in sociology from the Delhi School of Economics, is also among the youngest MPs at 25. Her victory has been attributed to her strong educational background and involvement in social work, alongside the campaign slogan "Shambhavi Hai to Sambhav Hai" resonating well with voters. In a campaign rally, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted her candidature, bolstering her visibility.
