Sangli (Maharashtra), Oct 4 (Reporter) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP- Sharad Pawar) Chief Sharad Pawar on Friday congratulated National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for its decision to accord classical languages status to Marathi. Talking to reporters, Pawar, on a two-day visit to the city since Thursday, said for the last many years, there was a demand to give Marathi elite status, and on Thursday the central government announced it was according classical language status to Marathi. Pawar said every Marathi must be satisfied from the bottom of his heart at the decision. The state government has been demanding since 2013 for classical status of Marathi language. Many organisations had also made that demand. "Sahitya Samelan passed a resolution in this regard and we also had urged for the demand. "Decision of classical language status to Marathi and other four languages, will raise the importance of these languages. It has opened a way of bringing to the public eye what was previously written in Marathi language and not in front of the public. Besides, if the new generation wants to write something in this regard, they get an opportunity to encourage them, every year the government also provides financial assistance to those working in this field", he said...////...
