Mumbai, Jan 24 (Reporter) Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) MLA Rohit Pawar, the grandnephew of NCP supremo Sharad Pawar, was questioned on Wednesday by the officers of the Enforcement Directorate office for nearly ten hours in connection. with the Maharashtra State Cooperative (MSC) Bank money laundering case. Pawar appeared in the ED office at Ballred Pier in south Mumbai at 1030 a.m. with NCP Loksabha member Supriya Sule and a battery of lawyers in response to the summons issued by the ED last week directing him to remain present in the ED office today, January 24. A huge number of party activists from his constituency of Karjat-Jamkhed (Ahmednagar), Pune, and Mumbai gathered near the ED office, where tight security was deployed to prevent any untoward incidents. Amid intense speculation and uncertainty, Rohit R. Pawar was finally allowed to go after the 10-hour grilling session. All day, Pawar Sr., Working President Supriya Sule, and other senior leaders maintained an anxious vigil at the NCP (SO) state headquarters just across the road. After coming out, thousands of party workers greeted him with loud cheers and claps, dancing, and V-signs. He took a microphone to address the gathering, saying he had fully cooperated with the ED team, responded to all their questions, and cleared their doubts. However, he said the ED has summoned him again on Feb. 1 for the probe. The ED recently conducted searches at premises associated with Baramati Agro, a company owned by Rohit Pawar. The ED has found several irregularities in the sale of Kannada Sahakari Sakhar Karkhana (SSK). The money laundering investigation into Pawar's firm, Baramati Agro, is related to charges of "diversion" of cash and the deposit of earnest payments by a company that bid on the purchase of an ailing Maharashtra-based cooperative sugar factory, SSK. The factory was taken over by Baramati Agro for ₹50 crores, which is significantly undervalued and is suspected to be the result of a manipulated auction under the Maharashtra State Cooperative Bank. Meanwhile, former Mumbai Mayor and Shiv Sen (UBT) leader Kishori Padnekar has been directed to appear in the ED office tomorrow, January 25, in connection with the COVID-19 scam...////...
