Mumbai, Sep 19 (Reporter) Lauding sanitation workers of Mumbai for their exemplary work, Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Thursday described them as the real heroes in maintaining cleanliness in the western metropolis.
He was speaking at the launch of the 'Swachtta Hi Seva (SHS) 2024' campaign from Girgaon Chowpatty here
He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi started a movement in 2014 by launching the "Swachh Bharat Abhiyan". The campaign is being implemented effectively across the country.
Stressing the necessity of maintaining cleanliness for a healthy lifestyle, he said a deep cleaning drive has been undertaken in Mumbai by sweeping and washing roads As a result, the pollution in Mumbai has reduced a lot.
Shinde said a statewide cleanliness campaign will continue till Gandhi Jayanti, October 2. The concept of 'Swabhav Swachhta - Sanskar Swachhta' will be implemented in the urban and rural areas of the state.
He said through the initiative of Swachhta Hi Seva Abhiyaan, Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (RRR) centres are being set up and a zero waste programme is being implemented at tourist spots.
Plantation and beautification work is going on under the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' initiative. At the same time, the places that are not cleaned regularly have been found, and a three-prong planning has been done to ensure such places remain clean forever.
He also appealed to everyone to participate in the cleanliness drives, asserting that Maharashtra will not fall short anywhere in Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.
