Bengaluru, May 20 (Reporter) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah on Monday launched a scathing critique against Prime Minister Narendra Modi, accusing him of disseminating false information regarding reservations for Muslims.
Siddaramaiah countered Modi's assertions that the Congress would revoke reservations for backward communities to favour Muslims, labeling them as blatant lies.
Citing the Chinnappareddy Commission report, he underlined the longstanding presence of Muslim reservations in Karnataka for three decades. The CM also highlighted an affidavit submitted by the BJP government, led by Basavaraj Bommai, to the Supreme Court, affirming the continuation of Muslim reservations.
"Modi is peddling lies in his speeches," Siddaramaiah asserted, stressing that no community's reservation has been annulled under current policies, branding Modi's statements as "utter falsehoods." He made these comments during the 'Meet the Press' event organised by the Press Club of Bangalore.
In a confident projection, he predicted that the Congress would secure between 15 to 20 of the 28 Lok Sabha seats in Karnataka, dismissing BJP leader BS Yediyurappa's claim of a clean sweep.
Siddaramaiah also lambasted the BJP for spreading misinformation about the Congress government's five guarantee schemes, promising their continuity irrespective of electoral outcomes.
"We won't halt any guarantee schemes. The people's blessings for five years will sustain them," the CM affirmed, refuting BJP's claims of financial strain on Karnataka's treasury due to these schemes.
Dismissing BJP's allegations of temple fund misappropriation, Siddaramaiah emphasised the government's commitment to rural temple development.
"The BJP's temple fund accusations are unfounded. They overlook our rural temple development efforts," the Chief Minister stressed.
On the caste census report, he disclosed facing pressure to reject it but opted for acceptance to uphold social justice values.
