Bengaluru, Aug 18 (Reporter) Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has called a Congress Legislative Party (CLP) meeting on August 22 in the backdrop of Governor Thawar Chand Gehlot's go-ahead for the former's prosecution in connection with the alleged Mysuru Urban Development Authority (MUDA) site allotment scam. The announcement of the meet was made by IT Minister Priyank Kharge during a press briefing on Sunday. Kharge emphasized that the meeting will be a key moment for the ruling Congress party as Siddaramaiah is expected to provide a detailed briefing to party legislators on the allegations against him. The Chief Minister aims to present the facts of the case, clarify the party’s position, and present a roadmap to combat the legal and political challenges posed by the allegations. "The focus will be on recent developments concerning MUDA. The Chief Minister will address Congress MLAs, ensuring that they are well-prepared for the legal battles ahead," Kharge stated, underlining the gravity of the situation. The MUDA scam, which centers around the alleged improper allocation of land during Siddaramaiah’s previous tenure, has escalated into a major political issue. The Governor’s decision to allow prosecution has emboldened the Opposition, particularly the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), to step up criticism of the Congress government. In a swift reaction, BJP MLAs have announced plans for a protest at 11.30 am on Monday, in front of the Mahatma Gandhi statue at Vidhana Soudha. Leader of the Opposition R Ashok, speaking at a press conference at the BJP’s Jagannath Bhawan office, accused the Congress of rampant corruption and a failure to deliver on its promises. "In the past 15 months, this Congress government has been synonymous with corruption, illegal activities, and betrayal of public trust. The people of Karnataka are fed up.
